Active involvement of the higher clergy in mitigating the problems of the East Indians

Posted by Arun Dube on October 15, 2013 at 11:10 AM

I have been reading about the plight of the East Indians and the way they have not been given a fair deal by the Maharashtra government over the years. Their lands have been acquired without adequate compensation being given e.g. Santa Cruz airport land, and they do not get any recognition by the government authorities. After following the reports on the various actions being taken by the members of the community, with negligible results, it is apparent to me that this sorry state of affairs will only worsen unless active steps are taken by the top clergy in Mumbai.

If you take the example of Goa, where Archbishop Felipe Neri Ferrao has developed such an outstanding role as a leader of Christians that he commands the respect of the top Goa goverrnment authorities, be it the Chief Minister or the Governor, it would be heartening if the top Church authorities in Maharashtra would also emulate Archbishop Ferrao and use their authority to assist the East Indians in their rightful fight for justice.

Arun....you are absolutely right......here in Bombay we need Archbishops & Parish Priests who can take active part in the agitations our people living in bombayvillages are doing to get our peoples legitimate rights related to government jobs, housing, etc and also Archbishop, bishops, parishpriests who can meet MPs, MLAs, Corporators, Ministers, Commissioners, Collectors, etc to discuss with them the various problems our people living in the villages of bombay ( http://www.bombayland.blogspot.com/ ) have been facing decade after decade......at the moment majority of the catholic clergy in bombay are turning a blind eye to our peoples agitations.

Gavkaris.

Most of the times number of girls are lesser than the boys & their qualification and expectations are very high. It's time for BEIA to organize such event for all Catholics as our community is united & it's better to marry a Goan or Mangalorean, rather see our Catholics marrying Non-Catholics. Also maintaining profiles of bachelors & Spinsters of all Catholics to help the community as a whole. Boys & girls can take appointment to check profiles which will be of great help & add to the success of the cause.
